Sandy’s Squad’s Fundraiser
Benefitting: Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation
Team: Sandy’s Squad
Event Fundraiser: 2021 DASHing Together Virtually for Pancreatic Cancer Research
March 2019 changed our lives forever when Sandy Kofkin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As horrible as that diagnosis was for all of us to accept, she pushed the fears aside and shifted her focus to conquering this battle that was about to unfold. And unfortunately, as the story goes way too frequently, she lost that battle 6 months later in September. The boundless strength Sandy demonstrated in those 6 months was immeasurable.
As much as we feel the massive void of Sandy's irreplaceable presence, shining red hair, positive spirit, and smiling face every single day, it will be especially difficult to do the Dash without her - and our cousin Derek Aghion who we will miss deeply. The overwhelming amount of love and support that was brought by the 100+ people on Sandy's Squad in 2019 and all who joined virtually in 2020 meant so much to our family.
This year, we need to be strong for the people who have lost their battles and strong for the people who are currently fighting to give them a reason to fight. We are hopeful for more positive outcomes with the help of the Rolfe Foundation, and with strength in numbers, we hope we can be instrumental in getting there faster. The urgency has not diminished, and seeing the inspiring work of the Rolfe Foundation gives us hope that an early detection test and eventual cure are on the horizon.
There are many ways to help. You can sign up and join us virtually on July 10th and run, walk or bike with us (or any other activity you choose) as a team member. If people are comfortable Dashing together as a team, we will be organizing a meeting place and time that day to come together for a Sandy's Squad stroll. Remember to snap a picture in your team shirt and share it with us. Or if you can’t join in on that day, please consider donating to our effort in memory of Sandy.
